上海の中心地、淮海路。

最先端のファッションやカルチャーが生まれ続ける一方で、歴史ある百貨店や建造物が街の品格を支えるこの場所には、新しさと伝統、軽やかさと重厚さが共存する独特の空気が流れている。

本計画では、その都市が内包する二面性を「SYMBIOSIS PLAZA ― 潮流と格式のせめぎ合い」というテーマとして空間化した。

“潮流（トレンド）”と“格式（トラディション）”が互いに拮抗しながらも、時に溶け合う関係性を表現するため、様々な高さのL字壁を分散配置し、空間全体に複層的な視線と奥行きを生み出す。

その構成は、商業の中心地として発展を続け、時代ごとの価値観を映しながら多様な建築が重なり合ってきた淮海路の街並みから着想を得たものである。大小のヴォリュームがせめぎ合うように立ち並ぶ都市の風景を、立体的なファサードとして再構築した。

表情の異なる大理石は折り重なるように構成され、無機質なフレームの中には柔らかな光が滲み出す。また、緩やかに区切られた客席は、人々の気配を感じながらも適度な距離感を保つ居場所となっている。

それは新旧の対比を誇張するための演出ではない。異なる時代が育んできた価値観を同じ場所で受け止め、共有するための舞台である。まるでギャラリーのように、多様な価値が並び立ち、それぞれが互いを引き立て合う空間を目指した。

ここは流行を消費するための場所でも、格式を誇示するための場所でもない。

移ろい続ける潮流と、積み重ねられた品格。そのせめぎ合いの中にこそ、淮海路という街の魅力がある。

本計画は、その緊張と調和を受け止める、上海らしい“都市の居場所”を目指した。

Huaihai Road, in the heart of Shanghai.

A place where cutting-edge fashion and culture continually emerge, while historic department stores and architectural landmarks lend dignity and character to the city. Here, novelty and tradition, lightness and gravitas coexist, creating a unique urban atmosphere.

This project translates that inherent duality into space under the theme of “SYMBIOSIS PLAZA — Where Trend and Tradition Converge.”

To express the relationship between trend and tradition—forces that simultaneously contend with and blend into one another—L-shaped walls of varying heights are distributed throughout the space, generating layered sightlines and a rich sense of depth.

The composition draws inspiration from the streetscape of Huaihai Road, a commercial center that has continued to evolve while reflecting the values of successive eras and accumulating diverse architectural expressions over time. The urban scenery, where volumes of different scales stand in dynamic tension, is reinterpreted as a three-dimensional façade.

Marbles with distinct expressions are layered upon one another, while soft light gently emanates from within an otherwise restrained and inorganic framework. The seating areas, loosely divided throughout the space, provide places where guests can feel the presence of others while maintaining an appropriate sense of distance.

This is not an attempt to dramatize the contrast between old and new. Rather, it is a stage designed to embrace and share the values cultivated by different eras within a single place. Like a gallery, it seeks to create an environment where diverse values coexist, each enhancing the presence of the others.

This is neither a place for consuming trends nor a place for displaying prestige.

The true appeal of Huaihai Road lies in the tension between ever-shifting currents of culture and the accumulated dignity of history.

This project aspires to become a distinctly Shanghainese urban refuge—a place that embraces both the tension and harmony born from that coexistence.
