海外における日本料理店は和風空間であるべきか？
そのような疑問から実験的にデザインされたプロジェクト。

「日本料理店=和風」が常識とされていた当時の上海において、クライアントが望む「木ルーバーに囲まれた和風モダンな空間」に対し、「金属フレームが浮遊する無機質な空間」を対比的に配置。

相対するデザインが交錯する二つの空間の交点では、＜木質の安心感と金属の緊張感とがせめぎ合いながらも共存する新たな空間＞が生まれた。

Should a Japanese restaurant abroad necessarily be designed as a traditional “Japanese-style” space?
This project was conceived as an experimental response to that question.

At a time when “Japanese restaurant = Japanese-style interior” was considered the norm in Shanghai, the client envisioned a warm, wood-louvered modern Japanese space. In contrast, we deliberately introduced an opposing spatial language: an inorganic environment defined by floating metal frames.

At the intersection of these contrasting design approaches, a new spatial condition emerges — one in which the reassurance of wood and the tension of metal confront and coexist in dynamic balance.
